Nisa East is a cinematographer & filmmaker based on Gadigal Wangal Country, her work includes award-winning documentary features, commercial, live music & experimental performance films, narrative & music videos. She was a Berlinale Talent for cinematography in 2023.

Nisa has built a career shooting non-fiction that transcends traditional conventions, and has shot for notable directors Elaine McMillion Sheldon, Maya Newell & Garrett Bradley - whose most recent film ‘Time’ was nominated for a 2021 Academy Award. As a cinematographer Nisa’s work has screened at international film festivals including Sundance, Tribeca, IFF Rotterdam and Hot Docs, and appeared in the 2019 Whitney Biennial in NYC. She has shot for Grammy award winning artist Solange Knowles multiple times, documenting her visionary, immersive performances that combine sound, image, sculpture, movement and more.

With a background in visual communication & experimental film, her visual language is influenced by music, theatre, dance, poetry, activism - all mediums of expression.
As an auteur, Nisa is interested in exploring the spaces between reality and poetic truth.
